Why I Stopped Using Makeup Wipes and Why You Should Too

I will be the first to admit, I was a makeup-wipe-loving gal! The ease and the way my skin felt after using them made me a big fan! I didn’t plan on stopping use of them… but… I had actually run out right at the same time that I was sent the Face Halo to try. The claim was that these removed your makeup better and were WAY more sustainable being usable for hundreds of uses at only $22 for a pack of 3. I was intrigued to say the least. Honestly, if timing wouldn’t have been what it was… I may have not even tried them. But, since I was out of my makeup wipes and not in the mood for a Target run, I gave it a-go. After my first use I was impressed because for the first time, when I dried my face after washing, there was NO makeup residue wiped onto my white towel. I was also very impressed by how clean the Face Halo itself became after washing with a gentle soap (I just use my nice hand soap).

I have been using the Face Halo for about 3 months now and this previously makeup wipe loving girl is not going back to makeup wipes… ever. Let me tell you why. After a few weeks of using the Face Halo, my prone to breakout skin had been pretty darn good. Much better than normal, actually. I thought to myself… this may not be a coincidence.

So… I started googling. After a little research, I’ve found that makeup wipes aren’t all what they’re cracked up to be! In fact, not only do they not truly remove your makeup, but they really aren’t great for your skin. In my findings, I learned that a lot of makeup wipes are filled with gross chemicals AND they pretty much just move your makeup around your face not take it off. Not only that, but they tend to just move dead skin cells and dirt around on your face as well (yuck)!! This can obviously cause irritation to your skin, and so can the rubbing motion of the wipes. I thought to myself… were my favorite makeup wipes what was causing a lot of my breakouts!? Not 100% sure but WOW. Mind BLOWN. Still, my skin has consistently been less irritated, less broken out, less inflamed and more even since I stopped using makeup wipes.

But you guys know, I would never just leave you hanging without some alternatives! According to an article I found in Glamour, a better solution than wipes is using micellar water and a cotton pad! It’s more natural and way better for your sweet face! It’s also less expensive AND more sustainable.

Personally, my new favorite alternative is my Face Halo! Seriously you guys, this product is amazing!! It’s a little black round pad with microfibers that are able to gently scrub deep into your pores by just wetting it with water! When they get too dirty, you just throw them in the laundry - so not only easy, but environmentally-friendly and sustainable! I have been talking about Face Halos on my IG stories non-stop because when I find a beauty product this impressive, I need to tell ya’ll!

To use the Face Halo, you just wet it and use little round motions all over your face to remove all makeup. After makeup is removed, wash your face with your go-to cleanser. My favorite is the Acne Foam Cleanser from Tula and if you’re not prone to breakouts, their cult classic, Purifying Face Cleanser is the other cleanser I use regularly.

I wanted to share the products I’ve been using + a few products that I found in my research to make your skin feel happy, but also be clean and healthy! As I always say, treat your skin as you’d want to be treated - pampered!
